Just Another Day in 5th Grade

After our class this past Saturday, I have come to realize that even though we have issues, my class is fun at times and we will survive this year! Today was duty day and I was forced to run across the playground and break up 3 fights! Not fun but the students backed off once I got there...Thankfully! Even though fifth graders are talkers and want to act like grown ups, they are fun to watch playing tag and jumping rope... I have to remember they are just kids wanting to make friends and enjoy their day at school!!

Things are beginning to settle down...

Today, I feel more confident that my students are understanding that summer is officially over and it's time to get down to business! We are all still getting used to each other but are getting along nicely.  I wouldn't have thought 10 and 11 year olds would still enjoy being read to but they do! We have being reading "I Got a D in Salami" and I throughly recommend it! Hank is like them and is facing some of the same issues they are. From remembering spelling words to being sent to the principal's office, my students are waiting for the story to begin everyday. I love seeing their faces when I stop at a really good part.  They want to learn more and will pay attention to the discussions in class we have over the books we are reading.  Every month, the literacy teachers will read a "Book of the Month".  Students look forward to what is coming next and are encouraged to pick up another book and read!
